Welcome to the Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC)! Our program is designed to offer a distinctive fellowship experience, merging the resources of a large hospital with the intimacy of a close-knit fellowship and the warm hospitality characteristic of the South.

At UMMC, our Infectious Diseases faculty hail from diverse backgrounds, representing seven different countries and four continents. In addition to core focus of infectious diseases, our faculty possesses additional expertise in specialized areas such as Critical Care, Public Health, Viral Hepatitis, Transplant ID, and Microbiology. We pride ourselves on providing a structured teaching environment where fellows receive comprehensive training across clinical, research, and educational domains, yet you will find the program to be very flexible and adaptable to your specific career goals.

Our two-year ACGME-accredited program is designed to ensure a balanced blend of clinical exposure and academic pursuits. Clinical responsibilities are balanced over the two-year period, allowing fellows ample time to settle in and learn at their own pace. Clinical experience ranges from the basic to complex infectious diseases pathologies. Patient population at UMMC comes from different socioeconomic background that allows us to study a wide range of interesting pathologies. Our fellows develop a deep connection and commitment to serve those in need.

From the outset, fellows can request elective rotations or research opportunities, providing them with full two years to craft a personalized trajectory through their fellowship tenure. During second year of their training fellows can choose from one of the focused ID tracks - Antimicrobial stewardship track, Infection Prevention Track, HIV track, Transplant ID Track or Research track. Additionally, we offer a unique opportunity for collaboration with our Critical Care fellowship, enabling interested fellows to pursue a combined Critical Care - Infectious Diseases pathway.

We invite you to explore the exciting opportunities that await you at UMMC, where our goal is to empower physicians to excel as distinguished educators, groundbreaking researchers, or expert clinicians in the field of Infectious Diseases.
